Food Bacteria Identification by Mass Spectrometry
FoodBIMS is a database of mass spectral data of intact bacteria created at the Institute of Food Science, CNR, Avellino, Italy. While the data may be useful for the molecular characterization of bacteria, the database is aimed to develop a method (protocol) (strategy) for the rapid identification of bacterial species, in particular for relevant food contaminants, a research area of growing interest. Up to now, in this database are present bacteria, belonging to 11 different genera (Escherichia, Listeria, Yersinia, Staphylococcus, Salmonella, Microccocus, Morganella, Pseudomonas, Proteus, Sarcina, Lactobacillus) including 24 different species. The number of species will increase during the time and the addition of new data from different laboratories will be implemented soon.

This data base contains information about GALT protein and its mutations linked to the genetic disease galactosemia (classical galactosemia). The content of the data base is based on the knowledge from literature of mutations in the GALT sequence and, as a derived and original information, on the effects of these mutations at level of the three-dimensional structure of GALT.
