QThe research
activities of the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and
Computational Biology
(http://bioinformatica.isa.cnr.it)
started in 2001 and are focused on the study of
human patologies
related to
nutrition, but also to oncological pathologies, by
means of development and application of
bioinformatics and computational biology
tools.
Since 2007, this
activity is configured within the CNR organization
as a Research Unit (named Commessa)
entitled Bioinformatics for the study of
molecular bases of human pathologies of the
Interdepartmental Project
CNR-Bioinformatics.
The development
of new technologies and their application in
biomedicine requires bioinformatics to analyze and
manage the large amount of experimental data, as
well as for definying new strategies for the
analyses, suitable to the new needs of research in
biomedicine. Therefore, the activities of this
Research Unit include the direct application in
researches related to the themes of interest for
the Institute, as well as the development of new
bioinformatics tools in support of the new lab
technologies and omics
approaches.
Specific research
themes: identification of molecular markers of
pathologies, molecular modelling and simulations
with proteins and molecules of interest for the
investigation of molecular mechanisms of human
pathologies, structural studies on proteins and
molecules of biotechnological interest, new methods
for the analysis and prediction of protein
structure and function, development of
bioinformatics tools and web server
tools.
The Laboratory
has also organized many meetings, seminars and
conferences concerning Bioinformatics and
Computational Biology.

The web site of
the Laboratory, http://bioinformatica.isa.cnr.it
, reports the full list of publications since 2001
and a detailed description of the research
activities. The site offers also services and tools
for bioinformatics applications developed by the
Laboratory.
