Polyphenols may behave as potential neuroprotective agents, since their ability to influence and modulate key cellular processes implicated in neurodegeneration. Several studies show the promising neuroprotective effects of herbal compounds (e.g., (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate, resveratrol, curcumin, quercetin and others) or extracts (e.g. tea polyphenols). Berries represent a rich source of flavonoids and among them, we showed that <i>Sambucus nigra <\/i>extract possesses elevated polyphenolic content and antioxidant capacity.
