Short CV

Research Interests

Alfonso Siani graduated in Medicine in 1980 at the “Federico II” University of Naples Medical School, where he worked as a clinician and a researcher up to 1997. He contributed with relevant publications to the prevention of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases through non-pharmacological/dietary intervention.

In 1997 he was appointed as Senior Researcher first and Research  Director(from 2010) at the Institute of Food Sciences of the CNR (ISA-CNR). He is the Head  of the Epidemiology and Population Genetics unit of the Institute.  He has a recognised experience in the assessment, at the population level , of genetic, nutritional and metabolic risk factors for nutrition-related diseases. He co-ordinates the participation of ISA-CNR in many international research projects (Olivetti Heart Study, Wandsworth Heart and Stroke Study, the FP5 IMMIDIET Project, the FP6 IDEFICS study, the FP7 IFamily study), always holding leading positions. He authored about 130 papers in ISI scientific journals, with a current H-index of 36. He is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief  of the internationally renowned journal ‘Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases’ (Impact Factor:3.875). From July 2012, he is a member of the Panel on Dietetic Products, Nutrition and Allergies (NDA) at the European Food Safety Agency (EFSA).
